#1. $1,500 in new prizes
(on a one year trial basis) to be
offered at 2011 MQHA Versatility Ranch Horse Show and
2011 MQHA Thanksgiving Classic Quarter Horse Shows (see
Coming Events below). $500 is being added
to the VRH show budget and $1,000 to the Thanksgiving
Quarter Horse Shows budget to be used to purchase gas
cards and merchandise to be distributed throughout the
shows at the discretion of the Show Management. Along
with our usual High Point Awards, the show will draw for
two free weekend stall fees.

Website - MQHA launched its completely updated
website in July and it has been warmly received. If you
have not as yet visited our new site, you are invited to
do so. It's at the same
location, however, you may have to hit
the "refresh" button your Internet browser during your
first visit to see the changes. Check out the Quick
Links to help you navigate around.
We welcome new content from
members, so please feel free to submit photos and show
or other news items of any kind. MQHA members are
entitled to FREE classified ads, so submit ads to the webmaster for:
- horses
or tack/equipment for sale
- links
to your business website
- contact
info/links placed on the Breeders and Trainers web
pages
- If
you are planning an upcoming Manitoba horse event of
any kind, you may submit information to be posted on
our Events/Shows web page for

#3. New
MQHA Facebook page You are invited and
encourage to visit and "Like" our new Facebook page. We
are using this new page to announce updates to the
website, so be sure to connect so you'll know when to
revisit the website. (You'll need a Facebook account -
and good news, it's free)
#4. 2012
AQHA Youth World Cup - The AQHA has confirmed
that the event will take place in Kreuth, Germany from
July 21-29, 2012. The CQHA has confirmed that it will
field a Team Canada for this event. Click here CQHA

qualifying as a Team Canada member, and applying as Team
Canada's Coach or Team Canada's Manager.
#5. Novice Championship
Shows: After receiving
positive feedback from both professionals and Novice
exhibitors, AQHA has announced the approval of two
Novice championship shows to be held in 2012 for youth
and amateurs. The Western Novice Championship Show will
be September 21-23 at the South Point in Las Vegas,
while the Eastern Novice Championship Show will be
October 5-7 at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum in
Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Classes offered will be
yearling, 2-year-old, 3-year-old, aged and performance
mares and geldings halter classes; showmanship; western
horsemanship; western pleasure; trail; reining; western
riding; barrel racing; pole bending; hunt seat
equitation; and hunter under saddle.
To be eligible to participate in the
Novice championship shows, individuals must place in the
top 10 at AQHA
Regional Championships or have shown to a minimum
number of AQHA judges at AQHA-approved shows
nationally.
Also, affiliates will establish
qualifying criteria for exhibitors who support their
states/provinces/countries to participate in the Novice
championships through a system they develop to fit their
needs. AQHA staff will be working with the affiliates on
this effort.
#6. New legislation in the
US regarding the Commercial
Transport of Equine to Slaughter Act. - the USDA has
amended their regulations to extend the protections now
afforded to horses transported to slaughter facilities -
effective October 7, 2011. Visit the MQHA

#7. Manitoba Premises
Identification Program for
Livestock and Poultry - a premises
identification regulation under the The Animal Diseases
Act came into force in September, 2010. This regulation
requires an owner or operator to provide specific land
and contact information for at least one premises for
the purposes of animal health emergencies. Owners and

Equine Canada releases 2010 Equine Industry
Study.
This study reports on statistical data derived from the
largest equine industry participant survey sample ever
completed in Canada. The report estimates there were
963,500 horses in Canada in the summer of 2010 living on
145,000 properties and that 855,000 people were active
in the horse industry last year. To download a FREE copy
