MQHA/MQHYA Youth Grassroots Show Program

The Manitoba Quarter Horse Youth Association is pleased to continue its Grassroots Show Program inaugurated in 2008. The purpose of this program is to promote good horsemanship, sportsmanship and comradeship among youth, regardless of the breed of horse/pony being shown, at an affordable price to show. Five Grassroots classes may be offered: Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle, and Trail, at participating AQHA-approved Quarter Horse Shows in Manitoba (if agreed to by the host show committee.) Shows offering Grassroots classes at this time are: the MQHA Summer Sizzler Quarter Horse Shows, Brandon Summer Fair and the Thanksgiving Classic Quarter Horse Shows. Other AQHA-approved shows are being invited to sign on to this program.

Grassroots Show Program Criteria & Rules: (To Qualify as a Grassroots Competitor):

  1. Exhibitor must be 18 years and under as of January 1st, of the current year. Depending on the number of entries, classes may be split/combined (13 years & under/14-18 years).

  3. Horse or pony ridden may be a Grade or any registered breed (Quarter Horse, Appaloosa, Paint, Arabian, Welsh, etc.)
  4. Exhibitor MUST NOT have earned any points at a BREED show in their lifetime at the time of registering for the Grassroots Show Program of the current year.
  5. Exhibitor must be an MQHYA member of the current year, and participate in fund-raising, social events, etc., when required.
  6. Exhibitor must be a member of the Manitoba Horse Council or hold out-of-province Equine Federation insurance. (Proof will be required)
  7. Grassroots classes will be Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle, and Trail (when applicable).
  8. Grassroots exhibitors will pay all stall fees, office fees, etc. NO ENTRY FEES.
  9. There will be NO ENTRY FEES for Grassroots classes only.
  10. Exhibitor must enter SHOWMANSHIP at each show/judge to qualify for All-Around Year End Award points for that show (some shows may be double judged).
  11. ONE JUDGE = ONE SHOW (2 Judges = 2 Shows)
  12. POINTS will be tabulated as follows: 10 horses or more ----------1st place = 10 points, 2nd place = 9 points, 3rd place = 8 points, and so on. 10 horses or less -----------8 horses--- 1st = 8 points, 2nd = 7 points, 3 = 6 points, and so on.
  13. AQHA Handbook of Rules & Regulations will apply to Grassroots classes, including the use of rider equipment, tack and/or attire.
  14. Grassroots High Point Year End Awards will apply for (individual classes): Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle, and Trail. MQHYA will be responsible for providing these awards. To be eligible to receive these individual class High Point Awards, a Grassroots exhibitor must be a current member of the Youth Association ( MQHYA).
  15. Grassroots High Point All-Around Awards will be the responsibility of the "mother club" Manitoba Quarter Horse Association (MQHA). To to be eligible to receive High Point All Around Awards, a Grassroot exhibitor must also be a current member of the MQHA.
  16. Exhibitors must complete and file a Horse ID Form with the Grassroots Show Program. (Forms will be available at sanctioned shows).
  17. Points will be collected and tabulated on a ONE HORSE/ONE RIDER basis.
  18. Stabling (stalls) for MQHA/MQHYA sanctioned shows MUST be arranged through the Show Secretary of each show. ALL HORSES MUST HAVE A STALL. In some cases stalls must be reserved one MONTH in ADVANCE. Please check with the Show Secretary for EACH SHOW well in advance to reserve stalls.
